About VPS

Built from two classes. In the heart of Vancouver.

Vancouver Performing Stars grew from a single idea: that every child deserves access to high-quality performing arts. Today it's a place where over 1,500 young performers find their confidence, their community, and their love of the arts.

The VPS Story

I founded Vancouver Performing Stars out of a need for accessible, high-calibre performing arts education at a community level. I started VPS in 2011 with just two early childhood programs at Hillcrest Community Centre.

Our growth has been remarkable. We expanded across Vancouver and are now anchored by a new 5,200 square foot studio and theatre with an 80-seat black box at Quebec and East 4th Ave in Mount Pleasant. Today we serve over 1,500 students through more than 100 weekly programs.

Through comprehensive training in dance, music, and dramatic arts, we empower young performers to develop the discipline, creative thinking, and collaborative skills essential for success both onstage and in life.

What we believe

More than steps and songs.

At VPS we believe that performing arts training builds more than stage skills. Every child who walks through our doors develops resilience, confidence, creativity, and a sense of community, qualities that follow them well beyond the stage.

From ballet and hip hop to musical theatre and choir, we offer pathways for every interest and every level, from the very first class at 18 months to pre-professional training for older teens through the VPS Academy.

In the press

"From its humble beginnings as two parent-and-tot classes at Hillcrest Community Centre to the new home, VPS has grown into a force on the local performing arts scene, serving over 1,500 students ages one to 18."

— The Vancouver Sun

"At VPS, we believe in more than just training for the stage; we develop essential life skills. We foster resilience, confidence, creativity and community in every child that walks through our doors."

— Katy Finlay, Director & Founder
