Frequently Asked Questions for VPS Academy

Who is this program for?

The Academy is built for children who want to immerse themselves fully in the performing arts and dedicate themselves to more intensive, focused training.

It's a natural fit for young performers who are genuinely passionate about the performing arts and who thrive in an environment where they train with intention, grow with purpose, and pursue their craft in a committed, high-focus environment.

Because the Academy runs one full day per week, students require permission from their school principal to be excused for the day or are enrolled in homeschooling or distance learning programs (such as VLN, SelfDesign, or eBus).

What exactly is VPS Academy?

VPS Academy is a full-day conservatory-style performing arts program.

Unlike drop-in or after-school classes, the Academy runs during school hours from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm and covers musical theatre, acting, vocal technique, and dance (ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop) in a single immersive day.

It is arts conservatory training built into your child's school week.

How long is the program? What days and months does it run?

The Academy runs on Wednesdays for 1-Day students, or both Tuesdays and Wednesdays for 2-Day students, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The season runs September through June, totaling 30 sessions across the school year.

The Monday Academic Add-On from 12:30 to 3:30 pm is available separately for families who want supervised study alongside the program.

What sets the Academy apart from other programs in Vancouver?

The training is conservatory-structured, intentional, sequenced, and designed to build on itself. Every student follows the same rigorous curriculum in sequence across 30 weeks of the year.

We have our own 5,200 sq. ft. studios and theatre, so training never moves to a rented hall or community centre.

Entry is by audition and both students and guardians sign a commitment letter, which keeps the cohort focused and high-level.

The scope of disciplines is also comprehensive for this age group: musical theatre, acting, voice, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and audition preparation, all in one program.

Can my child attend if they go to a public or private school?

Yes. Children from public and private schools are welcome. You will just need to obtain permission from your school principal before enrollment.

How do auditions work?
