Performance Choir

Your voice, front and centre.

An auditioned ensemble for experienced singers aged 10 and up combining advanced vocal technique, rich harmonization, and dynamic stage movement into one unforgettable season.

What is Performance Choir?

The VPS Performance Choir goes far beyond standing in rows and singing in unison. Led by Choir Director Eliza De Castro, this select ensemble blends advanced musicianship and harmonization with movement and theatrical performance, creating a choir experience that is as dynamic on stage as it is rigorous in rehearsal.

Members explore an eclectic repertoire spanning pop, musical theatre, gospel, and folk traditions, all performed through custom, original arrangements written for the ensemble. No two seasons sound the same.

Four genres. One ensemble voice.

Every season, Miss Eliza curates a program that spans traditions and challenges the ensemble to develop range, versatility, and stylistic depth.

  • Pop & Contemporary

Chart-spanning repertoire arranged for ensemble voices and stage performance.

  • Musical Theatre

Iconic numbers from the Broadway canon, performed with full dramatic character.

  • Gospel

Powerful dynamic range, call-and-response, and rich harmonic layering.

  • Folk & World

Repertoire that broadens musical perspective and introduces diverse vocal traditions.

All arrangements are custom and original, written specifically for the ensemble each season.

Why Vocal Training

  • Advanced harmonization — Part-work across soprano, alto, and mixed voicings develops ear training and ensemble listening skills.
  • Movement integration — Unlike traditional choir, members learn choreography and staging that turns every performance into theatre.
  • Original arrangements — Repertoire is custom-arranged for the ensemble each season, pushing stylistic breadth and artistic identity.
  • Performance opportunities — The choir performs in the VPS Spring Showcase and select seasonal events throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions for Performance Choir

Does my child need audition preparation to try out?

We keep auditions low-pressure. Students sing a short passage of a song of their choice (about 30 seconds) so we can assess range and tone. No formal preparation is required.

How is this different from the Musical Company programs?

Musical Company (Starlights, Dreams, Embers, Inspire) focuses on full theatrical productions, acting, dancing, and singing together. Performance Choir is dedicated entirely to the vocal craft: advanced harmonization, repertoire study, and movement-integrated choral performance.

Can my child be in both Performance Choir and a Musical Company?

Yes, many students do both. Performance Choir runs Mondays 7–8 pm, which is designed to sit alongside other weekly commitments without conflict.

What is the minimum experience level?

This is an auditioned ensemble for experienced singers who want to go deeper. Prior vocal training or at least one season in a VPS musical theatre program is recommended. Students new to singing should start with our Musical Theatre classes first.

When does the season run?
