Contemporary dance at VPS blends classical ballet foundations with fluid, expressive movement, helping performers ages 7–9 find their artistic voice on stage.

What to expect

Feel the music and let your body tell the story! This expressive class invites dancers to explore the art of contemporary movement through fluid technique, dynamic choreography, and artistic storytelling.

Intermediate dancers will deepen their understanding of musicality, spatial awareness, and performance quality while building strength, flexibility, and control. Through creative exploration and challenging movement, this class encourages dancers to push boundaries, find their artistic voice, and connect deeply with the joy of dance.

Prices are for the full September–June year. Year-long classes include the June Recital. Ages 5+ also perform in the annual VPS Nutcracker. Costume fees and tickets are not included.

Do contemporary students perform?

Yes, all year-long classes perform in the June Recital at our 80-seat theatre in Mount Pleasant. Year-long classes ages 5+ also perform in the VPS Nutcracker.
