Hip hop at VPS is high-energy and technically grounded. We teach foundations in isolations, grooves, footwork, and freestyle fundamentals, rooted in the culture and history of the artform.

Mini Hip Hop (Ages 3–4) keeps it playful: big moves, big music, big smiles. Junior Hip Hop (Ages 5–6) starts building real choreography and stage presence. From there, your child can progress to Starjump Academy or audition for our competitive Ignite and Inferno Hip Hop Crews.

What does my child wear to hip hop?

Comfortable fitness or dance attire and clean indoor runners. No strict dress code, just move-ready clothes.

Is there a competitive hip hop option?

Yes, our Ignite (ages 8–12) and Inferno (ages 12–17) Hip Hop Crews compete across BC. See the Competitive Dance page for details.

Do students perform?

Yes, all year-long classes perform in the June Recital at our 80-seat theatre in Mount Pleasant. Year-long classes ages 5+ also perform in the VPS Nutcracker. Costume fees and tickets are not included in tuition.
