Why VPS ballet

Technique through story and play.

Ballet at VPS isn't about standing at the barre reciting positions. For our youngest dancers (ages 3–5), every class is a story, swans, snowflakes, and enchanted forests are the vehicle for learning musicality, coordination, and spatial awareness.

As students grow into Junior and Intermediate levels, the technique deepens. By the time dancers reach our Senior classes, they have the foundation to pursue pre-competitive training through Starjump Academy or our award-winning Dance Teams.

Every ballet student performs. Classes ages 3+ take the stage at the June Recital; classes ages 5+ also perform in the annual VPS Nutcracker at our own 80-seat theatre in Mount Pleasant.

Prices are for the full September–June year. Year-long classes include the June Recital. Ages 5+ also perform in the annual VPS Nutcracker. Costume fees and tickets are not included.

Frequently Asked Questions for Ballet

What age can my child start ballet?

We start at age 3 with Mini Ballet, no experience needed. Dance With Me (ages 1.5–3) is even earlier, with a parent in class.

What does my child wear?

Ballet bodysuit, tights, ballet slippers, and hair in a tight bun. A ballet skirt or tutu is optional.

Do ballet students perform?

Yes, all classes ages 3+ perform in the June Recital, and classes ages 5+ also perform in the VPS Nutcracker.
